Travis Perkins extends Senior Tour deal

9.58am 21st July 2010 - Sponsorship & Events

Travis Perkins plc, a leading supplier in the building materials and home improvement market, has signed a new three year extension with the European Senior Tour to continue as title sponsor of the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters at Woburn Golf Club.

The new agreement guarantees future prize fund increases for the £260,000 event, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

There has been an illustrious roll call of Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters champions over the past decade, including former Ryder Cup Captain Mark James (2005), leading Senior Tour money winner Carl Mason (2006 and 2007), Ryder Cup player Gordon J Brand (2008) and Tony Johnstone, who will defend the title over the Duke’s Course from September 3-5.

Among the new Senior Tour players attempting to join that list will be 2001 PGA Championship winner Andrew Oldcorn and Barry Lane, who will be looking to add the title to the British Masters he won in 2004 – the last of his five European Tour wins.

With 19 tournaments already confirmed for the 2010 Senior Tour schedule, Travis Perkins’ agreement secures the future of an event that has been a strong part of the Senior Tour’s backbone, and complements events already announced in Australia, Japan and Mauritius for next season.

John Carter, Chief Operating Officer of Travis Perkins plc said: “We are delighted to continue to support the Senior Tour at Woburn and look forward to an exciting Tournament in 2010.”

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “We would like to thank Travis Perkins for their ongoing commitment to golf and the European Senior Tour and we are delighted to extend their agreement.

“Travis Perkins was involved with the Wentworth Senior Masters between 2002 and 2005 before coming across to Woburn as title sponsor which has given this prestigious event great stability.

“We would also like to acknowledge the important role my Special Advisor, Geoff Irvine has played in managing the relationship between Travis Perkins and the Senior Tour and assisting all parties in making this one of the key sporting events in the construction industry, as well as on the Senior Tour schedule.”

“This strong partnership combined with the great support offered by His Grace, The Duke of Bedford, in hosting the tournament over the Duke’s Course at Woburn, makes the tournament a favourite amongst the Senior Tour members and has attracted record crowds over recent years.”

His Grace, The Duke of Bedford, said: “On behalf of my family and the members of Woburn Golf Club I am absolutely delighted that our relationship with Travis Perkins will extend through until 2013, which will enable us to welcome them back to our fully refurbished clubhouse in 2011. We are grateful to Travis Perkins for their support and commitment to this event.”
