Belfry prepares for the Ryder Cup

12.30am 21st August 2002 - Corporate

John Deere is busy helping to prepare for the Ryder Cup at The De Vere Belfry, which takes place on September 28th and 29th, having been postponed last year due to the events of September 11th.

Using about £1.2 million worth of John Deere equipment, course manager Bevan Tattersall and his team are putting the finishing touches to the world famous Brabazon course. A staff of 40 operates a fleet of more than 50 machines including mowers for tees and surrounds, greens and fairways, and Gator utility vehicles.

“All the major work has now been completed, so it is just a case of polishing things up. The fairways are being cut every day with the 2500 triplex greens mowers, rather than the usual 3235B fairway mowers, as they achieve a thinner stripe and better quality cut,” says Bevan.

John Deere has been appointed preferred supplier to The Belfry for the Ryder Cup and the Benson & Hedges International Open, as well as the last two Open Championships, at Royal Lytham & St Annes and Muirfield.
