Green Fee TXT vouchers – ‘The Way Ahead’

8.58am 31st May 2005 - Corporate

GolfSmart SMS (‘Short Message Service’), the first text message service developed specifically for the golf market, is now offering golf clubs a proven alternative to promoting green fees through traditional 2For1 type vouchers, magazine advertisements and mailshot promotions.

GolfSmart SMS allows golf clubs to promote their green fees via a simple text voucher message and as clubs can send the text promotion ‘real time’ it makes very powerful addition to any clubs green fee promotions channel.

To give some idea how effective a GolfSmart SMS TXT promotion can be, the following quote is taken from Ben Beagley, golf manager at Merrist Wood Golf Club. “I have sent another text promotion today for a special offer this weekend as it is looking a little quiet. Within a few minutes of sending it we had three calls – two for the promotion and another for a society booking!”

This promotion generated additional revenue in excess of £500 from the green fee and society bookings. Additional revenue was also taken when golfers turned up ad-hoc showing the text voucher on their mobile phone.

Merrist Wood Golf Club is one of a number of clubs who are now using the power of text messaging to improve their response rate to promotions, realising that GolfSmart SMS is cheaper, more responsive and less time consuming than organising a more traditional promotion. It can be sent to hundreds of golfers in seconds.

Paul Haughney, managing director, said, “Golf club green fee offers are becoming increasingly competitive around the country. GolfSmart SMS allows forward thinking clubs to get their green fee promotions direct to golfers‘ mobile phones, which makes their green promotions stand out from all the rest. It’s a no-brainer really.”
