adidas Golf is to work with The R&A in developing the new Claret Jug apparel range. The agreement extends until 2011 and was signed last week at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Established over the last three years as “Preferred Apparel Supplier to The Open Championship,” adidas Golf, under the new agreement, will work with The R&A to build a year-round customer base for Claret Jug apparel in approved outlets.
Peter Dawson, chief executive of The R&A, and John Kawaja, executive vice president of TaylorMade-adidas Golf, signed the contract on Tuesday in the R&A complex at Royal Liverpool.
Using the Claret Jug and the history of The Open Championship as inspiration, adidas Golf created a special apparel range for 2006 called the Claret Jug Collection. Introduced in May, it can be seen and purchased at www.opengolf.com Each piece is crested with an image of the Claret Jug. The Collection is targeted at golfers who love golf’s rich history and traditions and who appreciate fine apparel.
“The R&A is widely respected for its long and wise governance of the game,” said John Kawaja, “which is why we are exceptionally proud of their decision to maintain adidas Golf as the Preferred Apparel Supplier to The Open Championship. The Claret Jug is the finest and most venerated trophy in the sport. It symbolizes the game’s great history, great traditions and great champions. We‘re honoured to have the privilege of creating apparel that will bear its image for the next five years.”
“We are confident in our choice and look forward to working with adidas Golf in developing a branded apparel range for golfers that want a clear association with the oldest major championship in the game” said Peter Dawson.
