Open success keeps Prototype driver’s record going

12.10am 28th July 2000 - Corporate

Since its introduction on the European Tour two months ago, the Prototype driver from Taylor Made has recorded a top 10 finish in every single tournament. The latest top-tens came at The Open Championship when Thomas Bjorn and Ernie Els tied for 2nd place.

“The Prototype driver is making its mark at the most competitive events on both Tours,” said Robin Gibson, European marketing manager, “with two wins and twelve top-ten finishes in Europe since its introduction. We look forward to further success as more and more players switch to the driver each week.”

As well as notching up a succession of wins and top-tens, the Prototype is fast becoming the most played driver on both Tours. On the US PGA Tour, it is already No. 2, thanks to the latest count of 38 drivers in play at the B.C. Open, and in Europe Taylor Made have seen their driver count increase by a record percentage since its introduction two months ago.

“The driver count is an important indicator for us.” said Gibson, “It is a truly legitimate test of how well a club performs. With drivers, contracts are not an issue as players choose the best performance clubs available. ”
