Slazenger’s £10m deal with JJB

12.40am 18th April 2005 - Corporate

Slazenger has concluded an agreement with JJB Sports Plc for the exclusive right to manufacture, sell and supply Slazenger-branded golf and associated products in the European Economic Area.
The signing of the agreement gives JJB Sports Plc an irrevocable 999 year licence and replaces a previous agreement that had existed between the two companies. JJB has paid Slazenger £10 million for the benefit of this licence.
Chris Ronnie, chief executive officer of Slazenger commenting on the agreement said, “The conclusion of this deal is good news both for Slazenger and for JJB. We have one of the best brand names in sport and particularly in golf. When we acquired the Slazenger brand in 2004 we gave a commitment to use our expertise to develop the brand in every sector that we could. This agreement means that the Slazenger brand name will be given a fresh lease of life into the golf sector with one of the best known sports retailers in the UK.”
Martin Wild, director of golf at JJB Sports commented, “We are all delighted to acquire the rights to one of the greatest brand names in golf, and a name that brings a tremendous heritage to JJB. When one thinks of the great golf players that have been associated with the Slazenger name over the years, men like Nicklaus, Ballesteros, Johny Miller and Ben Hogan, it fills me with pride to now be responsible for the Slazenger golf brand’s future development.”
