Titleist drivers proving a ‘major’ success

8.30am 28th October 2002 - Corporate

As the season draws to a close Titleist can reflect on a very successful launch with the 975 J.VS highlighted by independent surveys as being the most played individual driver model at all four majors this year. Titleist drivers were also the most played brand at the Ryder Cup.
Sports Marketing Surveys Ltd and Darrell Surveys’ official equipment counts reveal that the most played individual driver model at all four majors this season was the new Titleist 975 J.VS driver. At the Masters the new J.VS was # 1 with 13.6% of the field with its counterpart the 975J in equal 2nd place with 12.6%. The US Open again saw the J.VS take top honours with 12.7%.
At the 131st Open Championship at Muirfield 16 players, including runner up Steve Elkington, placed their trust in the J.VS to take #1 position and 10.3% of the field while the ‘slam’ was completed at the USPGA with 12.7% choosing the J.VS. Success has not just been confined to the Majors as Phil Mickelson on the US Tour and Adam Scott on the European Tour have both tasted victory this season with the J.VS in the bag.
The new 975J.VS H.CR driver, a ‘hot faced’ version with a COR of greater than.830, is available in the UK as the standard model. The new driver has the same classic’pear shaped’ 312cc head size and design as its counterpart, the 975J, but features a high strength beta titanium face insert to deliver increased ball speed, reduced spin and hotter feel and flight. The special patent pending’thin belt’ utilises a belt of reduced wall thickness around the hitting area to provide a higher COR for increased distance. The head has been weighted to enhance players who prefer a straight to drawing ball flight.
Aside from the Majors, Titleist drivers also proved a popular choice at the Belfry with 8 of the 24 players in the Ryder Cup choosing a Titleist driver, 3 more than the nearest competitor.

With the recent launch of a third model, the Titleist Pro Titanium 975 L.FE, the 975 driver range is now Titleist’s most comprehensive line up ever. The company’s commitment to designing drivers that perform at the very highest level has seen the brand become firmly established in the premium driver category and the success of the 975 range on tour is sure to accelerate Titleist’s momentum in the driver market even further.
