£11 Million invested in new Esporta Golf Club

9.00am 1st July 1999 - Course Development

A new Esporta Health, Racquets and Golf Club will open in Milngavie, Glasgow on Friday 30th July. Over £11 million has been invested in the club and course with the objective of making it one of Scotland’s premier golf and fitness venues.

The Esporta club will provide health and fitness facilities for all the family along with a beautiful 18 hole golf course which has a new drainage system costing £250,000. The golf course was previously known as Dougalston Golf Club. The championship standard course was designed in 1973 by the well-known golf course architect Commander Harris. It is set in 300 acres of woodland and Harris made great use of the natural setting incorporating existing water features on five of the holes. He also added 41 bunkers to protect the fairways and greens. The course was purchased by First Leisure Health and Fitness in June 1998 and has undergone substantial development in preparation for the official launch at the end of this month.
