In 2010, Schiphol Real Estate, the property arm of Amsterdam Schiphol, announced that it had partnered with Amsterdam International Golf Club – sister company of the largest golf-course operator in the Netherlands, BurgGolf – which operates ten golf courses including hotels, restaurants and golf stores – to develop the 75-hectare course on green belt land to the north of the airport.

The company has now revealed that the golf course would officially open on 1st July. However, it added that the name of the course would now be changed from ‘Amsterdam International’ to ‘The International’, after Amsterdam Golf Club ruled the name could be confusing to golfers.

Meanwhile, the construction of the luxury clubhouse got underway last week. Whilst it is being constructed a temporary clubhouse will be used.

The par-73 Championship Course and associated driving range has been designed by former Ryder Cup captain and US Masters winner Ian Woosnam.
