9.00am 9th May 2000 - Course Development

Palmer Course Design Company announced today that company President, Arnold Palmer and Chief Operating Officer, Ed Seay will be making a construction site visit at the Vilamoura Resort golf course on Friday, May 12, 2000. Vilamoura is one of nine Palmer designed courses in Europe.

Due to start construction at the end of the summer, Vilamoura, developed by Belas Clube De Campo is one of five resort courses in the Vilamoura Resort. The par 72, 18-hole championship golf course is set on 120 acres in the centre of the Algarve just outside Faro on the southern coast of Portugal. The course will combine water features with a large wildlife and wetlands sanctuary – creating a big, bold golf course.

Erik Larsen, Vice President and Senior Golf Course Architect for Palmer Course Design Company will accompany Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay while reviewing the site. Mr. Larsen, golf course architect for the Vilamoura project says, “It is both the owners and our intention to create one of, if not the finest courses in Portugal.”

The Vilamoura Resort golf course is expected to be complete by the Summer of 2001 and scheduled to open March 2002.
