One of the Midlands’ most reputable private members clubs, Edgbaston Golf Club, has invested £500k in a new fleet of Toro equipment.

The move sees the club, which enjoys a unique setting just a mile from Birmingham city centre, switch from a competitor’s range to become 100 per cent Toro in an extensive five-year deal.

The investment in Edgbaston’s longstanding 18-hole course, designed by legendary golf course architect Harry Colt, will ensure its challenging natural parkland course is maintained in perfect condition for the duration of the deal and beyond.

In a bid to maintain its proud tradition of offering a great golfing experience for all who play there, course manager Eddie Mills says injecting a significant sum of money into a step-change to Toro was a decision that he, along with his five-strong greenkeeping team and the committee, was happy to make.

“Toro stood out far above the other makes we demoed,” he explains. “We are confident that their range is the best we could ask for and meets our high expectations and demands. We have already seen an improvement in the quality of cut and members have commented favourably on it too.”

The fleet of new equipment brought on board comprises 19 of Toro’s latest models, able to address all aspects of Edgbaston’s course maintenance needs. Products range from a variety of mowers and Workman utility vehicles, to a ProPass 200 top-dresser and Multi-Pro 5800 dedicated sprayer, as well as ProCore SR72 and 648 aerators. In addition, the club has also bought three TYM Tractors – a T353, T503 and T603 – as part of the package from Toro distributor Lely UK.

Having had the chance to put the new equipment to good use, Eddie says he’s particularly impressed with the Greensmaster TriFlex 3420 Hybrid riding greensmower, with its ‘Flex’ suspension and all-electric cylinder-drive system, and the ProPass 200 top-dresser, which delivers extremely accurate spread patterns from light dustings to heavy aeration hole-filling.

Also impressed by the level of support from Lely UK and its area sales manager, Jon Lewis, as well as the club’s local Toro service centre, Meriden-based Redtech, Eddie adds that the team’s help has proved invaluable, ensuring he has the right machines to meet the club’s high course presentation standards.
