Today marks the opening of the new state-of-the-art 60 bay golf driving range on the Greenwich Peninsula, close to London’s O2 and just across the River Thames from Canary Wharf. The Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range is part of a regeneration scheme which includes 15,000 homes set in over 160 acres which will include a riverside running track and a tree lined park.

Also coming to the immediate area, which is overflown by planes using both London City and London Heathrow airports (but at very different heights), are film studios and an international conference centre

The range is a joint venture between Knight Dragon Developments and N1Golf and has cost several £ millions to create.

The landing area is 280 yards long and just a few yards from the riverbank. The Thames Path runs between the perimeter netting and the water’s edge. As you stand on the tee, Canary Wharf is on the left and the O2 is on the right. The range will have flight technology and screens in the bays which are deep enough to provide an area for entertaining.

“European Golf Machinery Limited were delighted to have been selected to design and install bespoke ball management equipment , bay dividers and utility vehicle to N1 Golf for the prestigious and exciting new Greenwich Peninsula 60 bay range development,” says Adrian Yallop, Managing Director of EGM. “The installation was carried out by our experienced team and completed in time for their opening. Our sister Company, Rangeball UK Ltd provided both our Premier range mats and spike proof carpet for the range and bays. We are extremely proud of the finished project and look forward to continuing to support and supply N1 as the range progresses.”

As if the range by itself was not a big enough attraction, in the clubhouse there is a new restaurant and wine bar, Vinotech Compass, run by Arnaud Compass and Keith Lyons. Both are veterans of the wine import trade.

“We are serving wine from anywhere on the planet that is producing good wine,” says Keith Lyons. “Many of the wines are not available anywhere else in the UK. It’s going to be great fun and we are going to take our beer just as seriously.”

Chefs Jordi Rovira Segovia and Daniel Rodriguez Navas have created a menu focussing on produce with provenance, including small plates of Welsh rarebit, smoked Jura sausages served on gin-infused sauerkraut and crab ravioli with saffron oil. Mains adopt a British focus such as grass-fed dry-aged Black Angus beef while brunch features traditional winners such as French toast with berries and avocado and pancetta on sourdough

“It’s one of the most exciting golf projects in the UK for over 30 years,” concludes Phil Richins, marketing director for N1Golf.
