Driving Golf Participation – What’s Working?

9.50am 21st October 2016 - Exhibitions & Conferences

Everyone in the golf industry would agree that driving participation in golf is the industry’s number one priority, but how exactly does a golf course owner, operator, manager or golf professional go about doing that?

Golf courses can be heard saying “What can we do to make a difference – we are just one facility” but individual golf courses can, and actually have, made a difference, and some of them have had spectacular results.

England Golf launched their headline ‘Get into golf’ programme 4 years ago, and since the launch, many golf courses all over the country have used the programme at their facility to attract adults into the game. The UKGCOA has invited three golf clubs to share their experiences of using the ‘Get into Golf’ programme and their success stories with other golf course owners/operators at GolfBIC 2017.

The session will be an open forum discussion where representatives from Bromsgrove Golf Centre in Worcestershire, Nene Park in Cambridgeshire and Norwood Park Golf Centre in Nottinghamshire will discuss and share their experiences of using the ‘Get into Golf’ programme with the BBC’s Naga Munchetty, who is a golfer herself and who will be moderating the discussion session.

‘Get into Golf’ is the National Campaign to get more people golfing and is run by England Golf and supported by Sport England National Lottery Funding. It is delivered locally by golf clubs and PGA professionals and designed to get more people into the game by offering taster sessions, beginner courses along with follow-on activities and memberships.

All three golf clubs have embraced the ‘Get into Golf’ programme as part of their strategy and have seen success with new participants transferring into membership as a result.

GolfBIC will take place on 17th and 18th of January 2017 at the Harrogate International Centre in conjunction with BTME and is designed to attract golf course owners and operators, secretary’s & general managers and other golf club operational staff to learn, network and get inspiration and ideas to help grow your golf club business.

Other sessions on the conference programme include Lessons from the US golf market, Award Winning Formula for Golf Success, Getting the best Performance from your Team, Golf Retail, UK Golf Industry Leaders in the Spotlight and much more. To view the full programme click here.
