The biggest golf event in the Midlands during 2010 is set to take place on Sunday 24 October at The Belfry, the four-time Ryder Cup venue north of Birmingham, where the latest equipment from leading manufacturers will be showcased and players of all abilities will receive free tuition tips.

Staged in the resort’s PGA National Golf Academy from 10am until 8pm, the Open Day will feature the latest golf equipment from nine of the world’s leading brands in one venue, plus a host of fun activities and special offers.

For the first time in the Midlands, the new Titleist 910 woods will be available for purchase; meanwhile Ping’s new K15 and Faith Series clubs will also be on sale in The Shop, recently voted ‘Best Pro Shop’ in Golf World magazine. The latest equipment from Callaway, Wilson, Mizuno, Nike and TaylorMade will also be on show and can all be tested on the 34-bay driving range in the Academy.

Notably, TaylorMade will be exhibiting its new Tour truck with custom fitting opportunities normally only available to top players like Europe’s Ryder Cup stars Martin Kaymer, Peter Hanson and Edoardo Molinari. As well as the inclusion of the truck, the new TaylorMade Burner 2.0 irons will be available for purchase, while the tour-proven Ghost putter will also be on sale to the public.

All nine brands supply The Belfry with their very best equipment, not just the standard fitting carts, so that 12,000 different club combinations can be created, including more than 50 sets of irons. Top-quality Nike range balls and Srixon short game balls allow golfers to get a true feel for the clubs they are hitting.

The day also sees a series of custom fit taster sessions and tuition clinics taking place in the National Custom Fit Centre, which boasts the largest demo stock in Europe and state-of-the-art launch monitors from the top equipment companies in five specialist fitting suites. The Belfry’s highly-experienced custom fit team is trained regularly by the leading brands to ensure all visitors receive the perfect clubs for their game. Members of the public can expect free launch monitor demonstrations, short and long game lessons, as well as time in the new Quintec lab that includes specialist technology used by three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington.

The Belfry’s team of 20 Professionals will also be on hand to provide free dedicated junior schools, plus there will be the chance to win fantastic prizes in ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Nearest the Pin’ competitions. All visitors will each receive free Academy membership worth £50.

“The Open Day is a great opportunity for anybody who plays golf or is thinking about taking up the game to try out the latest clubs and balls from the world’s leading manufacturers,” said Gary Silcock, The Belfry’s Director of Golf.
