Golf Management Group (GMG) has appointed licensed trade expert Andy Schofield as its new Golf Clubs Beverage Consultant from November 2016.

A 25-year veteran of the drinks industry who knows the trade from both sides of the bar, Schofield will initially cover the North West from his base in Burnley, although he will also be available to give advice to GMG golf clubs and franchisees throughout the UK.

GMG helps over 500 UK golf clubs to manage their costs in key areas such as Energy, Food & Beverage, Insurance and Waste & Washroom. The time and money saved by the club enables it to improve the golfing and clubhouse experience for its members and other guests.

“Over the years I have advised every sort of establishment imaginable, from working men’s clubs to five star resorts” said Schofield. “That includes numerous football clubs and other sports clubs, including golf of course. Having worked extensively both as an account manager for the major breweries, and as a proprietor of my own establishments, there are few challenges I haven’t come across over the years in the drinks industry.

“Although I am a golfer, at the weekends you’re more likely to find me at Turf Moor watching Burnley FC. However I am really looking forward to helping GMG golf clubs manage their beer, wines and spirits, and cannot wait to get started.”

This crucial area of golf club life needs the expert treatment, says GMG director Scott Partington. “Our business has evolved over the past six years: we have been streamlining our service, harnessing specific industry expertise with our experience and knowledge of golf club operations resulting in not only savings but also advice to increase sales and ensuring best practice” he said. “Our latest deal with the brewers includes the best pricing, sponsorship packages and discounted Sky TV, so it is a compelling proposition.”

“We are excited to welcome Andy to the team here at GMG. He adds authority and great expertise to our work in this sector. He has covered all aspects of the licensed industry in his career, and will be able to talk directly and knowledgeably with the hard-working bar managers at GMG golf clubs.”
