Having installed the Eagle club members’ app, GCMA Captain and Club Secretary Frank Clapp and Assistant Secretary Joy Edkins are delighting their Harpenden GC members, best expressed by one of them in the following way, “Joy – I downloaded the app to an iPhone 4S with no problems. The functionality available is excellent and looks to have plenty of potential. Great investment for the club to make.”

The Eagle app is now being fully integrated with Harpenden’s club management software from MH Systems, meaning one shared database for adding, changing or updating members’ details and of course much easier administration.

Joy confirmed that in the first week over 100 members had already downloaded the new app. Frank said, “We’re excited about this. Currently, the members can check their latest handicap, competition result and bar card balance on their own web page on the club’s website. With MH Systems fully integrating with Eagle with regard to the membership data, the members will soon be able to see all that information on their smartphones, tablets and desktops under the My Golf button, anytime they want.”

Frank sums up the impact of the Eagle app for Harpenden: “We believe the members should know everything that’s happening at their club. The Fixtures button means they can check dates and timings and be sure it’s bang up to date. They can see the News items and read the Noticeboard’s messages, and it’s obvious how pleased they are to do all this and more. It’s saving us time compared the paper-based ways, and pleasing members that their golf club is upgrading its communications.”

Joy continues, “After trialling the original app, we gave Eagle some ideas we felt would make it what our members wanted. Declan showed us how these ideas were incorporated into the app’s upgrade, and we released the app to our members. While we don’t have an on-line tee time booking system at Harpenden, we do have different times and tees for different formats. We got Eagle to put those into the tee times button, so members just tap their app to know exactly which tee they’re supposed to start from.”

A new feature of the Eagle app is the ‘marquee’ whereby messages can be sent along the top and the foot of the app’s Home Screen. “We send the office messages along the top,” Joy explains, “and the course condition ones along the bottom, so that just one tap on the app means members immediately see what we want them to know that day.”

Even Harpenden’s club pro is getting the app habit, as Joy explained, “He’s placed things like special offers, equipment and clothing brands, services and so on, so it’s much more obvious to the members. Our Catering team is also realising the benefit of the Eagle app and now has the menus advertised, as well as publicising the popular carvery lunches and fish & chip Fridays!”
