Working for Golf 2011

A film chronicling the past year at The R&A will premiere on Sky Sports tonight (Wednesday, 21 December).

The hour long programme, to be broadcast at 8pm on Sky Sports 3, covers the full range of The R&A’s work aimed at supporting and growing the game across the globe. The programme will also be repeated on the same channel at 1am, 8am and 1pm tomorrow (Thursday, 22 December).

Based inSt Andrews, The R&A organises The Open Championship, major amateur events and international matches and, together with the United States Golf Association (USGA), governs the game worldwide.

Working for Golf 2011 looks at another busy year for the organisation including the launch of the latest Rules of Golf and Amateur Status, work with R&A ambassadors Padraig Harrington and Suzann Pettersen along with golf development and course management projects from South America toNorth Africa.

It also features action from The Open Championship and other major amateur events organised by The R&A including the Boys Amateur Championship, the Amateur Championship and the Walker Cup.

The R&A’s Chief Executive Peter Dawson said: “It has been another busy and successful year for The R&A and our affiliates, who represent the interests of over 30 million golfers in 128 countries.

“We are dedicated to working on behalf of all those with an interest in the game, from the beginner picking up a club for the first time to The Open Champion. I hope this film gives people a glimpse into the full range of activity we undertake and support throughout the world.”
