The Fifth International Congress of Golf and the Environment, organized by PROMOTUR and the Malaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre, will take place from 16th - 18th April 2008. For the first time a golf exhibition will run in parallel with the Congress.
The opening and keynote presentation is entitled "The Tourist Golf Product in Mediterranean Countries". It will be presented by Jerónimo Pérez Casero, President of The Euromediterranean Centre of Knowledge, Innovation and Tourist Training at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaga.
Congress is going to focus on the characteristics and the determining factors for the development of golf in the Mediterranean. The objective is to lay the foundations for the definition of a sustainable development model for golf courses in this area.
Congress seeks to attract the interest of professionals, greenkeepers, golf course directors, builders, officials, consultants, managers and designers both from Spain and from other countries in the Mediterranean region, to which end the organisers have arranged the participation of leading specialists, both national and international.
Confirmed international speakers include Charles Peacock from Audubon International, Dean Cleaver from FEGGA, Demie Moore from Aquatrols, golf course architects Howard Swan, Jeremy Pern and Mike Wood, Jerry Kilby from the Club Managers Association of Europe and Jonathan Smith from Golf Environment Europe.
An important part of the congress will be dedicated to the study of aspects concerned with the development and management of golf courses, including those related to the planning, design, building, maintenance and management of the same under the premise of sustainable development.
The programme of activities looks at a series of aspects related to the environment and golf which will allow the speakers and, in general, all the participants to establish some scientific and technical conclusions, which will help to establish the foundations for what could be called a “Model of Sustainable Golf for the Mediterranean”.
In this fifth edition of the International Congress of Golf and the Environment, after the success of the previous edition with more than 300 participants, an exceptionally high level of institutional, business and associate support and collaboration has been reached, both at national and international level, counting on the support of the principal European golf institutions as well as, in a special manner, various universities both inside and outside the Andalusian region.
This Vth Congress is directed at all the autonomous Spanish regions, as well as Mediterranean countries, with a special relevance for teachers, university students, businessmen from the relevant sectors, professionals, consultants, officials and those responsible for tourism, the environment, town and country planning, town councillors, advisors, engineers, architects, etc.
