Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s experienced maintenance team has been named “Golf Course Maintenance Team of the Year” at The Middle East Golf Awards (MEGAs), hosted at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai.

The Troon-managed venue, preparing to host the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship for the 10th year in January 2015, scooped the esteemed award, decided by an expert judging panel of noted industry leaders.

In attendance at the glittering awards ceremony, Group General Manager, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Chris Card said: “This is a fantastic achievement and deserved recognition of the dedication of Group Director of Agronomy, Andrew Whittaker and his team.”

“Demonstrating perpetual commitment to uphold first-class conditioning expected of a tour-standard venue, the team has collaborated with Troon agronomists and Peter Harradine, course designer to successfully enhance the layout.”

Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s maintenance team is often referred to as setting the standard in the region. Leading the team, a humbled Whittaker said: “Over the past five years we have received very positive feedback from the European Tour, professionals as well as our members and guests who consistently return to our fairways. This award is further validation of the team’s hard work and we are honoured recipients.”

“Our knowledgeable associates are encouraged to contribute their ideas for golf course improvements. By granting individual responsibility, we have created a team of professionals with impressive levels of dedication who take pride in presenting the course to the highest standard.”

The award follows news of one of golf’s most exciting rising stars, Rickie Fowler, announcing his Abu Dhabi Golf Club debut at the 2015 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship from 15-18 January.  The world No. 10 joins a star-studded field that includes his contemporary and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy as well as European Tour headliners Martin Jaymer, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson.

In its second year, the leading awards in the Middle East recognise the lofty achievements of the region’s top golfers and stand out individuals in the golf industry.
