Alfredson encourages stars of the future

6.00pm 26th August 2002 - People

TaylorMade adidas Golf tour player, Helen Alfredsson, the defending champion at last week’s Wales WPGA Championship of Europe, ran an afternoon golf clinic for twenty of the most promising young female county golfers from Glamorgan. Helen spent an hour on the golf clinic before offering personal coaching to each of the players. The girls were able to watch Helen run through her practice routine and hear her thoughts on a number of golfing drills and skills. Helen also answered those questions that the children had always wanted answering.

This time last year, Helen was awarded honorary life membership as an acknowledgement of her victory at the Wales WPGA Championship of Europe and to underline her popularity with the members of Royal Porthcawl. Thanks to Helen’s equipment manufacturers, TaylorMade, she was then able to return this week to repay their hospitality by helping develop the local golf talent. “It was good to see that there are so many promising young golfers here in Glamorgan. I can see why they are such a successful county team.”

Linda Jones, Ladies Captain for the Glamorgan County Golf Union was thrilled that Helen took time out of her busy schedule to share some pearls of wisdom with the girls. “All of the girls thoroughly enjoyed spending the afternoon with such a respected and successful golfer as Helen and have definitely picked up some great tips and advice from her.”
