World No. 1 Rory McIlroy picked up another medal haul at the European Tour’s annual awards dinner.

The Northern Ireland ace picked up a clean sweep of PGA medals all relating to his victory in last year’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

McIlroy, an honorary member of The PGA having played for Europe in the Ryder Cup, received the Ryle Memorial for winning the Open Championship, the Tooting Bec for the lowest round and the Braid Taylor Memorial for finishing as the highest PGA Member at the championship.

David Wright, The PGA’s heritage executive, explained: “The Ryle Memorial medal was instigated in 1920 in memory of Arthur Ryle – a former chairman of The PGA.

“Rory also collected the Tooting Bec medal for returning the lowest 18 hole score in the championship. The Tooting Bec Cup was introduced by in October 1901 when the club offered a 36-hole championship to the founding members of the Association.

“The tournament stopped in 1923 and the general committee brought in the present conditions in 1924. The Tooting Bec Cup is the Association’s oldest trophy, predating the Leeds Cup which arrived in 1902.

“And finally Rory received the Braid Taylor Memorial medal which was introduced in 1966 in member of two of our founding fathers and is presented to the PGA Member finishing highest in the Open.”
