ELGA appointments

9.30am 18th April 2001 - People

Sue Dennis has taken up her appointment as the new secretary of the English Ladies’ Golf Association at the Edgbaston offices. Other ELGA appointments include Wendy Taylor (Cheshire), who becomes Vice Chairman to Di Stock and Chairman of the Rules & Regulations Committee. Joy Hunter (Yorkshire) is Chairman of the National Training Committee, Margaret Johns (Lincolnshire) Chairman of the Junior Girls Committee and Hilary Green (Lancashire) Chairman of Selectors.

Appointed last year and now making it her business to get out to the clubs and meet hard working Junior Organisers and Junior Area Managers, Kirstie Jennings, Junior Girls Development Officer, will have her hands full. This year there will be under 18, under 15 and under 13 titles to capture at the English Girl’s Championships.

The successful efforts of Performance Manager, Linda Bayman, to secure further Lottery backing for ELGA Elite squads has also enabled the Association to increase its spending in the support of Ladies’ golf in a number of ways. Additional grants will go to Divisions and Counties, there will be an increased number of seminars on rules, handicapping and scratch scores and plans are in hand to encourage more girls to play golf.

The invaluable Lottery funding will continue for a further four years subject to England players meeting performance targets and the continued Lottery support of sporting excellence.
