A former academy director at the Peter Cowen Golf Academy at Emirates Golf Club has been appointed head golf professional at renowned golf, event and travel business, the Aspiration Group.

Wrexham-born Nicky Lawrenson, 40, a Fellow of the PGA and a certified neuro linguistic programming master practitioner, brings with her an impressive CV which also boasts five years as academy director at Roda Golf and Beach Resort, in Spain, and another five-year residency at four-time Ryder Cup venue The Belfry.

She will be renewing acquaintance with a former Belfry colleague at the Aspiration Group, as CEO Simon Wordsworth was head professional at the world-famous resort when Lawrenson first joined.

Previously an instructional contributor to both Women & Golf and Today’s Golfer magazines, she is also one of a few golf professionals to hit a golf shot from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, having successfully completed a charity climb. Since leaving Roda Golf and Beach Resort in 2012, Lawrenson has expanded her own coaching business and has developed an online resource portal for golf performance and development.

Her new role will entail helping to deliver customised golf events and to carry out the coaching elements within them.

She said: “It’s a bit different to the roles I’ve had previously, although the coaching is still a part of it -and I’m really excited about the prospect.

“One of the things I’m most keen on is increasing the interest and participation of women in corporate golf. Historically women have been reluctant to take part and that is something I – and the Aspiration Group as a whole – am keen to address. But that’s not the whole story – I’m there to help develop all aspects of the golf offering which will include delivering coaching trips overseas in winter. It’s a very diverse, challenging and exciting brief. I really can’t wait.”

Wordsworth added: “I have known Nicky for longer than both of us would care to admit. She’s always been a very driven and self-motivated individual, but she’s also very much a people person. She really loves to coach and see improvement in her charges and she’s very eclectic in her approach. She is the perfect person to come in and fulfil this role for us.”

The Aspiration Group is a UK-based company with unparalleled expertise in organising events of all kinds, offering bespoke meetings and events; hospitality; travel (being ABTA and IATA bonded); gifts and merchandise: golf days, tournaments and trips as well as leisure travel and golf. Having developed key relationships with suppliers and leading global hotel, golf and conference venues – all of whom are critical to the delivery of successful events – the Aspiration Group thrives on the challenge inherent in the design and delivery of bespoke event solutions.

Its clients include the League Managers Association, Premier League and Championship clubs, and many other blue chip companies.
