Bill H. Maynard, director of golf course management at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Louis, Mo., and Darrell Crall, chief operating officer at the PGA of America, have been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Environmental Institute For Golf (EIFG), the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
Maynard, a certified golf course superintendent (CGCS), and Crall join the seven-member board that is headed by Keith A. Ihms, CGCS, president of the GCSAA. John J. O’Keefe, CGCS, serves as vice president, and Peter J. Grass, CGCS, is secretary/treasurer. Additional trustees are Rand Jerris of the USGA and Cal Roth of the PGA TOUR.
During the June meeting, the EIFG recognized retiring trustee Darren Redetzke, vice president of commercial business for The Toro, Co., for his three years of service to the organization.
The EIFG fosters sustainability by providing funding for research grants, education programs, awareness of golf’s environmental efforts and scholarships. It was founded in 1955 as the Scholarship & Research Fund for the GCSAA.
“We are pleased to welcome Bill and Darrell as trustees for the EIFG, and we look forward to their input as we continue to make a positive difference for the future of the game,” said Ihms.
Maynard has been a member of the association’s board of directors since 2010. Previously, he served as a board member for both the Carolinas and Heart of America chapters, including a term as president of the Heart of America GCSA. He has served on a GCSAA national committee every year since 1999. A native of Nashville, Tenn., Maynard has been a GCSAA member for 27 years.
Crall joined the PGA of America in 2011 as senior director of golf 2.0 after a long tenure as executive director of the Northern Texas PGA Section. He was appointed COO in November 2012. A native of Ashland, Ohio, he is a graduate of Duke University, where he played on the golf team and served as captain his senior year. He was previously a board member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, The First Tee of Dallas and executive director of the PGA Foundation.
The board of trustees is composed of four directors of GCSAA and one representative each from the USGA, PGA TOUR and PGA of America. The trustees are responsible for advancement, policies and general review of the mission and goals of the organization.
