New BIGGA chairman is uniquely qualified

12.00pm 23rd January 2004 - People

Andy Campbell, Chairman of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) for 2004, is the only British greenkeeper to hold both the Master Greenkeeper and the Certified Golf Course Superintendent qualifications
Andy, 42, is Golf Courses and Estates Manager for the De Vere Carden Park, near Chester. He has been at the Resort since 1992 and is in charge of the 30 greenkeeping staff as well as being responsible of the team of golf professionals, the starters and the rangers. He is also chairman of the golf club.
Although Andy is keen to push BIGGA forward in as many directions as possible during his twelve months in office, the education of greenkeepers will be very much to the fore.
“I‘m going to spend a lot of time promoting education because of what it has done for me and because I do believe in it,” he said. “You don‘t stop on the level of education you‘ve reached. We‘re in a fast paced environment. There are going to be many challenges to face over the next few years and we‘re going to need the skills to deal with them.”
