New CEO for LGU

The Ladies’ Golf Union announce that Andy Salmon, 33, has been appointed to the vacant position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer. He will commence his duties on 22nd January, 2002.

“This is an exciting appointment for the LGU as Andy brings with him extensive expertise in golf administration,” said Ann Popplewell, chairman. “We have no doubt that his experience of golf at both professional and amateur levels will continue to take the LGU forward into the future”

Commenting on his new position Andy Salmon said: “There has never been such an exciting time in ladies’ golf and I look forward to the challenge of continuing its progress and development at every level.”

Salmon is currently the director of golf at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel. Prior to his 3½ years with the hotel chain, he worked with the PGA for 6½ years and was secretary of their North Region. During his employment with the PGA he refereed at the 1996 Open Championship at Lytham and at Valderrama during the 1997 Ryder Cup.

He holds a BSc in Sport Administration & Science from Nottingham & Trent University, is married to Jude and plays to a handicap of 3 at the Forest of Arden.
