Sapey Golf Club, on the border of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, is being brought to the market by Bilfinger GVA’s dedicated hotels and leisure team.

The Club has been in family ownership since it was established in 1990, and is now being offered for sale as the current owners wish to retire. Offers in the region of £1.25 million are invited for the freehold, which covers 108 acres.

The Club comprises an 18-hole par 69 course designed by Ross McMurray, which extends 6,003 yards and is laid out over 86 acres.

There is also a 9-hole course on adjacent land which is also used for FootGolf, a combination of football and golf that is becoming increasingly popular, especially with younger players.

The site has all of the ancillary facilities expected of a modern golf club, including a purpose built club house with a function room overlooking the course and a steward’s flat, along with a greenkeepers’ facility.

Ben Allen, Director at Bilfinger GVA, said: “Sapey Golf Club is a wonderful leisure lifestyle opportunity that has valuable commercial opportunities. It combines the best of its countryside location with easy access from Worcester, Hereford, Birmingham and the M5.

“The opportunity to grow the business, either through the expansion of the current facilities or through the development of new holiday accommodation makes the Club an extremely attractive proposition.

“Given that the market for golf clubs in the Midlands is very strong, with the Hagley Golf and Country Club already under offer after only a short period on the market, we are expecting Sapey Golf Club to rouse significant interest.”

In 2015 the Club achieved a turnover of c. £600,000, generated through membership subscriptions, green fees and hire fees, and food and drink sales.

The property includes a two bedroom lodge with lounge, kitchen and two bedrooms which has been used as holiday accommodation in the past. Planning permission is in place for a further three two bedroom lodges, with the possibility of obtaining permission for further accommodation in the future.

Stuart Preece from Sapey Golf Club said: “Having been in our family since 1990, it will be sad to be relinquishing control of this beautiful club. However, the time is right for someone new to run the course and facilities and to take Sapey Golf Club into the future.”

The Club is ideally located, roughly a 30 minute drive from both Worcester and Hereford and only 37 miles from the centre of Birmingham, with easy access to the M5. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is also nearby, adding to the picturesque countryside of the Worcestershire and Herefordshire border.

Whilst the club is being offered for sale as a whole, offers will also be considered for parts of the property.
