HLL Humberts Leisure reports the sale of Mid Sussex Golf Club to Ron Muddle, the man who developed Arena Leisure, the all weather horse race course owning company, following a confidential marketing campaign. Offers in the region of £1.25 million were invited for the freehold property.
Mid Sussex Golf Club is located in Ditchling, East Sussex, some 7 miles north of Brighton. The club comprises a David Williams designed 18 hole 6,227 yard (par 72) golf course, practice facilities, a substantial Sussex barn style single storey clubhouse and greenkeepers compound. Mid Sussex Golf Club is operated as a proprietary members’ golf club and enjoys a successful trading record.
Ben Allen, who handled the confidential marketing exercise from HLL Humberts Leisure’s Winchester Office, commented, “Confidential marketing is an effective method of marketing golf clubs and we achieve the majority of our sales and lettings by this means. We have an extensive database of applicants seeking golf business throughout the UK and are thereby able to introduce purchasers to our clients on an off market basis.’
“We are experiencing an increasing level of activity in the golf market,” he continued, “particularly from lifestyle purchasers/new entrants to the sector. Whilst it is difficult to pin-point the reason for this increase, I am certain that the poor returns available from more traditional investments and the unstable stock market are encouraging more investors to seek alternative investments such as golf.’
