With the Scottish Open under way and The Open to follow next week, golf mania is sweeping the country and, for enthusiasts in the sport, there is a new investment opportunity with Oatridge Golf Course in West Lothian for sale through leading Scottish property consultants, CKD Galbraith.

The golf course was opened in 2000 by local golfing hero and former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher. It is set among gently rolling parkland by the village of Ecclesmachan, Broxburn and was formerly part of Binny House, an eighteenth century mansion.

Oatridge is a nine-hole course (par 35) which extends to 2793 yards and covers 54 acres. The course comprises two par 3s, six par 4s and one par 5 with a range of hazards including well positioned bunkers and water courses. The course has become very popular among beginners and experienced players alike and has been described as “the best nine-hole course in Scotland”.

The course features a practice area which includes a chipping range and putting green and the greens on the main course were constructed to USGA (United States Golf Association) specification.

Also included in the sale is Binny Golf Club which currently has 145 members. The clubhouse boasts a lovely balcony area offering spectacular views over the course whilst inside there is a retail pro-shop, office areas, ladies and gents changing rooms, staff rooms and storage space. There is a large car park offering 30 spaces and a workshop and machinery storage building also exist.

The adjacent field, which comprises woodland and a former quarry, extending to approximately 13 acres, is also part of the sale. This field currently provides good quality grazing for livestock but is suitable for expansion of the golf course subject to planning consent. The quarry is flooded and provides an excellent source for the automated irrigation system for watering the greens.

James Carnegy-Arbuthnott, who is handling the sale for CKD Galbraith, said: “Oatridge presents a fantastic prospect for anyone wishing a change of career whilst at the same time being able to immerse yourself in one of Scotland’s sporting passions. Golf courses of this nature rarely come on the open market and with Scotland being the ‘Home of Golf’ it has already attracted early interest from parties both at home and abroad.”

A mere 14 miles west of Edinburgh city centre, Oatridge Golf Course benefits from being situated in a beautifully rural yet easily accessible location. The golf course is also well placed for access to the M8 to Glasgow, the M90 to the north, the M9 to Stirling and the Edinburgh City Bypass. There are regular bus services to the area from all parts of the central belt and there is a rail link at Uphall Station nearby.

Offers Over £390,000 are being sought for Oatridge Golf Course. For further information please contact CKD Galbraith’s Edinburgh office on 0131 240 6960.
