Golf memorabilia available through eBay online trading

8.00am 10th July 2000 - Salesroom & Memorabilia

Golfing enthusiasts are invited to take part in a 20-day memorabilia auction immediately following The Open Championship at St. Andrews. eBay.co.uk, the nation’s largest person-to-person online trading community, is hosting the auction.

Among the items on offer are a W& J Dunn Driving Putter (circa 1860) and UK Open Programs (from 1936). Collectors and novices alike will be able to purchase any of 300 items secured for the auction – and own a piece of golfing history.

Golfing expert Graham Rowley, from Stourbridge in the Midlands, is the driving force behind the auction. He said: “There is an enormous market out there for golf memorabilia, but usually the valuable pieces are only put on bidding blocks in selective auctions, making them unavailable to many people. eBay.co.uk allows everyone who loves golf to participate.”

Other items up for bidding include (estimated prices follow each):

A Hal Ludlow 5” Bronze Statue of Harry Vardon 1905 (£3000)

Bobby Jones ‘Calamity Jane Putter’- left-handed (£300)

Rare Hardcover Hopkinson Collecting Golf Books – out of print (£1500)

Signed Tom Morris Photo Postcard – circa 1900 (£800)

Limited Edition 1927 ‘Down the Fairway’ – signed by Bobby Jones (£4000)

Gutta Percha Golf Ball Mould – circa 1875 (£3000)

Original 1969 Ryder Cup Captain’s Gift – money clip (£650)
