American stars Cheyenne Woods, Beth Allen and Paige Spiranac have joined the world-class field for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, which returns to the magnificent Dundonald Links next week.
One of the Ladies European Tour’s most prestigious events, Scotland’s national open has recently proven a big hit with players from the other side of the Atlantic and this year’s 14th edition will be no different as a trio of American stars will look to claim their first title on Scottish soil.
Current LET Order of Merit leader Beth Allen has already notched up some impressive top ten’s, most recently at the Buick Championship in China where the 2015 Ladies European Masters champion finished third. Beth will be joined by fellow countrywoman Cheyenne Woods, whose maiden career victory came at the Australian Ladies Masters on the LET back in 2014. Woods is looking forward to competing in Scotland off the back of a recent career-best finish on the LPGA Tour.
“It’s been pretty good,” she said of this season. “It’s been a fun year. I’ve played well the last few weeks, I had a tied sixth finish in Portland so I kind of have that momentum and I’m looking forward to playing in Scotland.”
The engaging 25-year-old has proved popular with Scottish fans having made her debut in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open last year.
Woods, who won more than 30 amateur titles ahead of turning pro in 2012, said: “I can’t wait to return to Dundonald Links and play in front of the Scottish fans. It’s a tournament and a course I’m really fond of, and it will be a great opportunity for me to fine-tune my game ahead of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Woburn.
“I got a really nice reception from the Scottish fans at Dundonald last year, and I feel like I have a special relationship with them, I even celebrated my birthday with them on the Saturday last year – this year I’ll be travelling down to Woburn. The Scottish fans are very respectful and knowledgeable, so I’m looking forward to a great week in the Home of Golf.”
Also joining the field is 23-year-old Paige Spiranac. Well known for her following on social media, Paige made her Ladies European Tour debut at last year’s Dubai Ladies Masters and has worked hard on her game since, recently firing a 68 to claim victory in a Cactus Tour event.
“I’m excited to get out there and give it another shot of testing my game. First trip to Scotland,” Paige posted on her Twitter account.
The 2016 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open takes place at Dundonald Links on the West Coast of Scotland in North Ayrshire, from 22-24 July. The event now occupies a prime spot on the Ladies European Tour calendar, sitting just one week ahead of the Women’s British Open and offers a prize fund of €500,000.
The event’s unique pro-am format sees 80 amateurs and celebrities tee it up alongside a limited field of 80 of the top female golfers in the world. The 54-hole tournament is played over three days and is the only annual professional Ladies European Tour event in Scotland.
