Mercedes Trophy is one of world’s biggest for amateurs

1.23am 9th December 2008 - Sponsorship & Events

Founded in 1989, Mercedes-Benz UK is proud to be entering into this landmark year of its commitment to amateur golf and the MercedesTrophy Tournament. Over the years, many tens of thousands of Mercedes-Benz prospects and customers have enjoyed taking part in the MercedesTrophy, which is one of the World’s largest amateur golf competitions.

Within this important anniversary year Mercedes-Benz will be running a detailed promotion of the tournament via its website http://www.mercedes-benz.co.uk, and across its vast retail network, together with articles in newsletters and in the golfing press.

Across the world some 53,000 golfers from 27 different Nations compete in the MercedesTrophy each year. Approximately 3,500 of those participate within the UK, as they seek to progress through the qualifying rounds and represent their Market Area in teams of three at the fabulous Regional Finals. At the Regionals guests are treated to 18 holes of golf at Championship venues, followed by a Gala Dinner and overnight accommodation at a local boutique hotel.

The winning teams at each Regional Final then qualify on to the National Final held at a stunning resort in Continental Europe. Recent venues have included Palazzo Arzaga in Italy, Praia D’El Rey and Vila Sol in Portugal and Villa Padierna in Southern Spain. Whilst all guests are treated to exquisite hospitality over the five day tournament, the three lucky winning individuals qualify to the ultimate event – the MercedesTrophy World Final, held at the home of Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, Germany.

The entire tournament is directed to the highest of standards, but with a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. For many amateur golfers, these tournaments are the pinnacle of their golfing ambitions, fulfilling a dream to feel like they’re playing on Tour.

Commenting on the 20th anniversary, Marketing Director, Ian Dutfield said; “Golf is an enduring passion for people all around the world. Hosting the MercedesTrophy gives the company an opportunity to deliver one of the world’s best tournaments to a large number of customers and prospects. That the event has grown over two decades is a testament to the popularity of what we offer.”

MercedesTrophy tournament director, Rob Moon, said, “We’re delighted to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the MercedesTrophy tournament, which is enjoyed by tens of thousands of golfers around the World. In 2009 we look to deliver the best tournament to date, at some of the UK and Europe’s finest courses.’

Mercedes-Benz owners and prospects who have not previously taken part in the tournament are encouraged to make their interest known and email the MercedesTrophy Tournament Office with their contact details to secure an invite in 2009: mercedestrophy@lunagolf.co.uk
