Parque da Floresta teams up with PGA

7.48am 2nd June 2008 - Sponsorship & Events

Parque da Floresta, the Vigia Group’s flagship golf and leisure resort in the Algarve, has teamed up with the PGA to become main sponsor of the Midland Masters.

The three-year agreement will see Parque da Floresta become title sponsors to one of the Midlands ‘majors’ held at Kedleston Park Golf Club, Derbyshire. To be known as the PDF Midland Masters, the event will take place on the 9th and 10th July 2008 and includes a pro-am competition followed by 36-holes of strokeplay for 78 of the region’s top professionals. The event forms part of the PGA Midlands region’s Order of Merit.

In addition, the luxury resort will host an annual PGA pro-am event in the November of each year which is expected to become established as the region’s premier overseas event of this nature.

Jon Sewell, regional secretary for the Midland’s PGA, said, “We are delighted to forge this relationship with the Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort.

“We have signed a three-year sponsorship agreement for a combination of the Midland Masters tournament as well as an exclusive European Pro-Am to be held at the Portuguese resort from November 17-20 this year.

“The deal was made possible by UK-based Pure Sports Marketing, who brought our two organisations together as part of a drive to increase the profile of the PGA in the Midlands region.”

Jon added, “Darren Phillips and his Pure Sports Marketing team have created a benchmark project which offers both scope for future growth as well as unique benefits for our membership.”

Billed as one of Europe’s most picturesque golf courses, Parque da Floresta is set in the western Algarve, amongst rolling hills, golden beaches, timeless fishing villages and unspoilt countryside. Bordering the Costa Vicentina National Park, the imaginatively designed, 18 hole par 71 golf course is the centre piece to the resort.

With no two holes remotely similar and measuring 5,712 metres from the white tees, the course features holes along valleys, past eucalyptus covered ravines, fairways flanked by olive, palm and pine trees with a variety and appeal that’s endless.

The Vigia Group is a privately-owned European consortium that has been operating in the western Algarve for more than 15 years. Seven luxury golf and beach resorts in the Western Algarve and a further golf development in the Alentejo, makes the company the leading developer of high quality properties within leisure resort settings in the area.
