PING sponsors new ELGA tournament

12.10am 7th March 2006 - Sponsorship & Events

The PING Ladies’ Four-Ball Better-Ball Tournament starts in April with a series of qualifying tournaments at participating golf clubs. It continues with four Regional Finals, to be staged in August and September, and climaxes with a Grand Final played at the PING-owned Gainsborough Golf Club, Lincolnshire, on October 18th 2006.
The new PING Ladies’ Four-Ball Better-Ball Tournament is co-sponsored by ECCO and PING Collection, who will supply shoes and clothing to all 96 golfers who make it through to the Grand Final.
ELGA is writing to all affiliated golf clubs inviting them to hold a qualifying round on a date of their choice between April 1st and June 30th, 2006.
Under the rules of the tournament, all qualifying rounds must be played as four-ball better-ball stroke play events, with participants receiving three-quarters of their handicaps.
The pairs returning the two best nett scores at club level will qualify for one of four Regional Finals, held at Langley Park GC, Kent (August 9th), Ilkley GC, Yorkshire (August 24th), Trentham GC, Staffordshire (August 30th) and Woodbury Park GC, Devon (September 19th). The pairs with the best 12 nett scores at each of the Regional Qualifiers will go through to the Grand Final, with the overall winners holding the PING Four-Ball Better-Ball Trophy for a year. They will also receive a memento, plus either PING ladies’ golf clubs to the value of £500 (less the value of any prizes won in a previous round), or a choice of clothing from PING Collection’s exclusive ladies’ range. The runners-up and the third-placed pair will receive prizes to the value of £100.
“We are delighted to sponsor the new PING Ladies’ Four-Ball Better-Ball Tournament which coincides with the launch of our new G5 ladies’ range, said John Clark, managing director of PING Europe. “It promises to be a tremendous tournament; one we hope will soon develop into one of the most prestigious events in the ladies’ golfing calendar.”
Clare Tyler, ELGA’s marketing, press and PR officer, said, “We are delighted to work with PING on this new event. It’s a great format and we are sure it will be hugely popular with our members.”
