R&A gives £250,000 for university golf

8.15am 26th August 2005 - Sponsorship & Events

The R&A Training Panel has completed a review of its support of university golf. As a result, over £250,000 will be spent in the 2005/2006 academic year.
Many universities in Great Britain and Ireland offer high quality golf programmes and 11 of these will receive R&A Foundation funding. They are:
Birmingham, Dublin, Exeter, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Loughborough, Northumbria, St Andrews, Stirling, Strathclyde and Ulster.
In addition, individual bursaries remain available to students in full time tertiary education. Applicants need to have achieved national recognition or hold handicaps of +1 or better for men or 3 or better for women.
Richie Ramsay, a member of the 2005 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team, is currently in receipt of R&A Foundation funding at Stirling University and earlier this month was in the side that was narrowly defeated by the U.S. in Chicago.
