Tracker at the Ryder Cup

12.10am 22nd September 2006 - Sponsorship & Events

Tracker is making a significant contribution in ensuring this year’s Ryder Cup runs smoothly for BMW. BMW is the official car of the 36th Ryder Cup being held in Ireland.
The UK’s leading vehicle-telematic system operator has agreed to equip every courtesy BMW being used during the world-renowned golf competition – which sees Europe’s leading golfers, compete against their American counterparts. With TRACKER Reporter the vehicle fleet management system will be able to maintain an up-to-the-minute schedule for the week- long event.
As a key sponsor of the Ryder Cup, BMW is supplying 70 cars, ranging from 5 Series Tourings for players and management, X5s for event support and also to be used for course evacuation in the event of inclement weather, and top of the range 7 series for VIPs.
The course at The K Club in Straffan, Co Kildare is some distance from Dublin airport and BMW and the Ryder Cup organisers face a sizeable task in ensuring the event runs smoothly by keeping track of the vehicle fleet. With TRACKER Reporter, the fleet will now be monitored and managed closely thanks to the system’s “real-time” feedback from each vehicle.
It is not the first time TRACKER has been called into help within the world’s sporting arena as the Uxbridge-based company, known for its Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) service, was called upon to provide a similar service at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Mark Bellwood, managing director for TRACKER Network UK, said, “We have a close working relation with BMW and we see it as a privilege to assist in providing the best possible courtesy car service for the Ryder Cup.
“While the Ryder Cup is a global event, in our eyes managing its vehicles is no more important than that of any business, big or small, which is why TRACKER Reporter is proving imperative for all our clients.”
Sean Green, managing director, BMW Group, Ireland, said, “BMW aspire to offering an exemplary service during the Ryder Cup and the use of the TRACKER system assures we will do so. There will be considerable challenges dealing with the infrastructure and traffic around The K Club and Dublin Airport but with the TRACKER system we manage the fleet efficiently and meet and exceed our clients‘ expectations. The technology will also enable us to deal with unexpected contingencies far faster due to the live feed from the vehicles enhancing the experience and effectiveness.”
