One of Europe’s most popular golf and leisure destinations, Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community has announced it will be making a strategic investment in The Lakes course to enhance guest and playing experiences. The Greg Norman designed golf course has become a fixture with The European Tour as a Qualifying School venue and has established itself as a firm favourite with golfers of all abilities around Europe. The 6,300 metre par 72 golf course is part of the 45-hole Lumine resort, with The Hills and The Ruins courses completing the golf offering.

“The Lakes is already one of the most popular courses in Spain,” commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, “However, we believe there are some areas we can improve that will take the playing experience to a new level and elevate the quality of the Lumine proposition for our guests and trade partners alike.”

The Lakes course is on the lowest lying land on the property, navigating its way through areas of wetlands and natural vegetation. As the name suggests, water is a regular hazard for golfers, and careful bunkering and undulating greens make The Lakes course a stand out experience.

Carlsson continued: “Our investment program will focus on three key areas; firstly enhancing some of the peripheral areas of the golf course, such as the cart paths, landscaping, signage and wayfinding, which will improve the experience from tee to green and between holes. Secondly we are developing the practice facilities to increase available hitting areas so we can accommodate more guests and the creation of a dedicated, state-of-the-art short game and wedge arena. Lastly we will be enhancing our drainage program to make sure our surfaces are to the highest standards.”

The investment program is part of the ownership groups unwavering commitment in creating and developing one of Europe’s most esteemed golf destinations. The group has committed to bringing headline professional and industry events to the shores of Costa Daurada and is fully vested in its vision of establishing a fully integrated luxury golf, hospitality and leisure destination.

Carlsson concluded; “Our ambition to become one of the top venues in Europe has never wavered. The Masterplan for the whole property includes a residential and hotel component, which in time will add yet another dimension for Lumine. Our service remains one of our central pillars, which we believe sets us apart, as guests are given the personal touch at every opportunity.”

The Troon managed property is only 50 minutes south of Barcelona and is home to a luxury Beach Club and a state-of-the-art golf academy. Neighbouring the property is Europe’s most popular theme park, Port Aventura, a comprehensive meetings and conference centre, the coastal towns of Salou and Cambrils, both renowned for their nightlife and cuisine, and just ten minutes away is the cultural town of Tarragona.
