Macdonald Hotels & Resorts took centre stage at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in Mallorca, November 14-17, 2016, as the UK’s largest independently owned hotel group generated more than £115,000 of new business during the four-day event.

Recognised as the world’s premier global event for golf tourism suppliers, buyers and media, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts held over 60 meetings with golf tour operators from 16 countries, highlighting its 25 golf venues.

In addition, the award-winning group also used the event to showcase its prominence in Scotland with its seven key golf destinations, which includes Macdonald Rusacks Hotel, situated in the heart of St Andrews and overlooking the 18th green of The Old Course and Macdonald Marine Hotel, which sits alongside the West Links course at North Berwick Golf Club, all enjoying easy transport access from many European hubs.

“IGTM continues to grow in size and significance and the appointment-based exhibition once again provided us with a unique platform to promote the high-class facilities at all of our venues, as well as our heritage within Scotland,” said Keith Pickard, Group Director of Golf and Health & Fitness at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.

“Once again, the quality of tour operators coming to the stand was very high and significantly for us this year, around 80% of the meetings were with emerging markets, such as New Zealand, Malaysia and Korea, contributing to the considerable amount of new business we generated over the four days.

“These new enquiries highlight the global appeal of our hotels, many of which are ideally located for golfers to experience a number of the UK’s Top 100 golf courses, and we look forward to developing further significant growth opportunities in 2017.”

During the event, Keith Pickard also presented a destination briefing to 48 pre-registered buyers, informing delegates of the multi-destination portfolio, which includes 18 golf-related hotel venues in the UK, five of which are golf resorts, four golf resorts on the Costa Del Sol, two in the Algarve and one in Ireland.

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts’ exceptional collection of golf resorts in the UK, includes Macdonald Aviemore Resort, Highlands, home of Spey Valley Golf Course, which hosts the annual SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge on the European Challenge Tour, Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club, Northumberland, Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa, Shropshire, Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa, Cheshire and Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa, Peebles.
