World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) has announced that the 2015 WCGC World Final will be held in Cascais, Portugal, from 30 June – 5 July 2015. Players and guests will have the privilege of staying at The Oitavos Five Star Hotel and competing at Oitavos Dunes Golf Course.
The World Corporate Golf Challenge represents one of the biggest corporate golf tournaments in the world. Since its inception in 1993 WCGC has grown to such an extent that over one million golfers have taken part in more than thirty countries. The 2015 World Final represents a fantastic opportunity for players to represent their company and country at one of the world’s top 100 golf courses and second best in mainland Europe. Participating in the World Final is an experience of a lifetime. Last year’s World Final was held at La Reserva Club de Golf in Sotogrande, Spain, and the WCGC organising committee is thrilled to be bringing the event to Cascais.
Cascais is a must-see destination for any visitor to Portugal. Offering beautiful beaches that range from sheltered coves to miles of dune-backed sands, visitors can immerse themselves in a variety of quaint villages, unparalleled history, and unspoiled forests. A former small fishing village that was regularly frequented by the Portuguese monarchy during the 19th century, nowadays Cascais is a lively and cosmopolitan town that still preserves a great deal of its earlier aristocratic atmosphere.
Miguel Pinto Luz, Vice Mayor of Cascais, said: “Someone famous in sports history said that the most passionate golfer would play on Mount Everest –if there were a flag on top. Cascais has not the hardness of Everest, but it is equally challenging. With 650 years of history, a sophisticated culture, 300 days of sunshine per year and an unparalleled art of hospitality, which is accompanied by hotels and world-class cuisine, Cascais has a long tradition of Golf. It is no coincidence that we are home to some of the most iconic golf courses in the country. It is therefore with great anticipation that we hope to welcome you to the 2015 WCGC World Final.
“Through what we have and who we are, we work for Cascais to be the best place to live, for a day or a lifetime. Inspired by the charming atmosphere of the Atlantic, we are sure beyond that, you will also be convinced that we are the best place in the world to play a golf.”
Miguel Champalimaud, Managing Director, The Oitavos Hotel, said: “Hosting such a huge international event will enhance the projection and promotion of Cascais as a luxury destination for world travellers. Both The Oitavos and Oitavos Dunes teams will put together an unforgettable week for our visitors. We are all looking forward to June 2015!!!”
Jose Guerra, Chairman of WCGC, said: “We are delighted to bring the World Final to the spectacular Lisbon Coast and in particular Cascais. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Host Destination, Cascais, as well as our Host Venue Partners. The enthusiasm and support from them is going to be invaluable in our preparations for this World Final. I am certain that the World Corporate Golf Challenge will provide a great platform to showcase what The Oitavos Hotel, Oitavos Dunes, and the local area of Cascais has to offer to the corporate golfing audience”
The Host Venue, Oitavos Dunes Golf Club is a stunning natural links golf course built into the natural surroundings with the utmost environmental sensitivity. The most respected golf course ranking in the world is published biannually by Golf Magazine. Last September 2013 Oitavos Dunes jumped 3 places up the list to be considered the 65th best course in the world and the second best in mainland Europe.
The golf course lies within the beautiful Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It is set amongst pine woods and reforested dunes in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is also located by the sea and you can enjoy ocean views at all times and Cabo da Roca, the most western point in continental Europe, can be seen from a number of holes. Oitavos Dunes Golf Course has been carefully crafted with a well thought layout and fits perfectly into its surroundings.
Harry Lloyd, Event Director at WCGC, said: “I am delighted to be working with Cascais and Oitavos Dunes Golf Course. We are constantly striving to better the World Final each year, and Cascais and Oitavos Dunes tick all the right boxes. The hotel is first class and the golf course will provide the competitors and guests with a truly memorable links golf experience.”
