More than 80% have voted in favour of women as members of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. There was a 92.7% turnout. The R&A has confirmed that Muirfield is now back on the rota of Open Championship venues.

The Club Committee will now seek authority from the membership, at a Special General Meeting, to hold a fresh postal ballot before the end of the year. The R&A has welcomed this development

The Club’s committee recommended a vote to admit women but the motion, by a narrow margin, failed to achieve the required two-thirds majority. The R&A has confirmed that The Open Championship will not be held at Muirfield again unless this policy changes
