SGU Statement on Amalgamation Proposal Vote

Scotland’s golf and tourism industries have declared their ambition to make more of the country’s world-class status as the Home of Golf. Golf tourism to Scotland is currently worth almost £100 million to the Scottish economy, around £70 million from UK visitors and the remainder from overseas. The new Strategy aims to boost spend by 4.4% per annum. Tourism is one of Scotland’s largest industries. It employs 177,000 (8% of the workforce and 15% of the Highlands & Islands workforce) and it injects £2.47b annually into the Scottish economy (5%).Tourism pays the wages of more people than the oil, gas and whisky industries combined and employs over four times more than agriculture/fishing
