Crowborough Beacon Golf Club is celebrating as it approaches the end of an action-packed year that saw unprecedented success both on and off the course at the East Sussex venue.
Improvements made across the venue’s par-71 course – which was designed in 1895 by an unknown architect and has since been tweaked by the likes of Alister MacKenzie and Harry Colt – have seen it re-enter two of the country’s most illustrious rankings.
As 2025 draws to a close, the historic heathland layout is once again represented in the top 100 of both Golf World’s ‘The 200 Best Golf Courses in England’, where it was ranked 94th, and National Club Golfer magazine’s ‘Top 100: England Course rankings’, where it was placed at 96. Golf Monthly magazine also reintroduced the club to this year’s list of the top 200 courses across all of the UK and Ireland.
More than 600 golfers teed off at the club’s much-anticipated ‘Festival of Golf’ in June, raising funds that will be invested into crucial pathway projects to further enhance the playing experience. Across six distinct events, the six-day festival blended thrilling on-course action with social events in and around the clubhouse.
Looking ahead, the Sussex Ladies’ Amateur Championship, and the English Girls’ Strokeplay Championship are scheduled to take place at the venue in 2026 and 2027 respectively, reinforcing its status as a championship venue to stand proudly among the country’s most respected.
Club secretary Chris Dowrick said: “Ever since falling out of the top 100 in Golf World’s ‘The 200 Best Golf Courses in England’ and Golf Monthly’s top 200 courses in the UK and Ireland, one of our key goals has been to do whatever is necessary to regain that status as soon as possible so we’re thrilled to achieve both targets in such a short space of time. It has been another year that we can all be really proud of, and the most exciting thing is that we have reason to believe that 2026 will be even better.”
