Monte Rei Golf & Country Club is set to undergo a six-month course and facility improvement programme from this spring designed to elevate the playing experience at one of Portugal’s most highly regarded golf destinations.

Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, the asset management company of Arrow Global in Portugal and Monte Rei’s new management company, has unveiled a period of fresh investment for the iconic European course to protect and preserve the Algarve resort’s reputation for quality, sustainability and resilience for the long-term future.

Following a detailed assessment of its Jack Nicklaus-designed North Course – which first opened in 2006 – Monte Rei has announced that the 18-hole championship layout will close from April to September to undergo a major renovation.

During this period, work will include landscaping restoration, upgrades to the irrigation system and pump station to improve water efficiency and selective course enhancements including the reconstruction of greens, bunker upgrades and refurbishment of cart paths.

In addition, improvements will also be made to the resort’s practice facilities, including the practice tee and training technology, alongside quieter and more sustainable maintenance operations supported by modern equipment.

Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO at DETAILS, said: “Monte Rei is already one of the finest golf courses in Portugal and Europe and that is something we deeply respect. This project is about taking a long-term view – protecting the character and playing qualities that members and guests value, while making thoughtful improvements that will allow the course to thrive for decades to come.

“At the same time, as the management company, we are ensuring that Portugal’s leading golf venues, particularly heritage courses like Monte Rei, are preserved and enhanced through careful considered evolution, without altering their essence unnecessarily. When Monte Rei reopens, it will be stronger, more resilient, and better equipped for the future, while remaining unmistakably Monte Rei.”

Monte Rei’s North Course first opened in 2006

Nestled among the picturesque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, Monte Rei is one of Portuguese golf’s most iconic resorts with many people regarding it as the number one golf venue in the Algarve. Away from the fairways, non-golf facilities include high-end dining, 24/7 concierge service, heated swimming pool, gym, tennis courts and children’s play area, while guests can choose from an array of luxury apartments and villas with accommodation to suit all tastes.

The course improvement programme forms part of a wider commitment by Arrow Global in Portugal to invest responsibly across its growing portfolio of assets and destinations managed by DETAILS and From: the new B2C platform focused on support development, marketing and commercial management in real estate.
