The Tytherington completes £1m investment programme

Cheshire club upgrades course and leisure facilities

The Tytherington Club in Cheshire has unveiled the results of a four-year, £1 million investment programme that has transformed the course and elevated playing conditions year-round.

The improvement journey at the Macclesfield-based venue began in 2022 with a major fairway drainage project designed to future-proof the course against heavy rainfall. The results were immediate: members and visitors have since enjoyed consistently high-quality playing surfaces, even during the wettest winter months.

Building on this success, the club turned its focus in 2024 to a full bunker redesign and redevelopment, led by renowned course architect Jonathan Gaunt. Over two years, every bunker across all 18 holes was remodelled, lined, and re-sanded using high-quality China clay sand, delivering a modernised aesthetic and significantly enhanced playability.

In addition, the club have just unveiled a new gym with the latest in Technogym equipment, including extended functional training space, improved free weights area, outdoor training space, new cardio and fixed equipment zones and a re-energised group cycle studio. Together with the extensive golf course improvements, these developments mark an exciting new era for the club.

Club Director Ian Shoreman said: “Over the last four years, we’ve invested over £1 million into the course, and the results speak for themselves. Our drainage system is now second to none, and our bunkers are the envy of neighbouring clubs. We’re writing a new chapter in the club’s history – as the course that stays open through winter. That’s something no one would have imagined a few years ago. And it doesn’t stop there. The club is in a fantastic place right now and long may it continue.”
