The R&A has welcomed Golfclub Breitenloo in Switzerland as the first club in Central Europe to work with The R&A Sustainable Agronomy Service under a R&A Sustainable Agronomy Venue premium support agreement.
Becoming an R&A Sustainable Agronomy Venue means the club will receive tailored agronomic expertise and the highest level of support, communicating and showcasing best practice in course management and sustainability.
The R&A Sustainable Agronomy Service supports clubs worldwide with independent, science-led expertise, helping them to deliver long-term sustainability alongside outstanding course conditioning and playing performance.

Héctor Forcén, Senior Agronomist for Central Europe at The R&A, will lead the collaboration with Golfclub Breitenloo. He will be supported by Paul Woodham, The R&A’s Sustainable Agronomy Lead for Europe and GB&I, and Richard Windows, Assistant Director – Sustainable Agronomy Services.
Woodham said: “Breitenloo is a fantastic addition to our sustainable agronomy portfolio and an important milestone as our first R&A Sustainable Agronomy venue course in Central Europe. Its location, ambition and commitment to excellence make it an ideal partner to work alongside in the aim of delivering high performance playing surfaces in a sustainable way.
Founded in 1964 and located just outside Zurich, Golfclub Breitenloo has established itself as one of Switzerland’s leading clubs. Known for its high-quality conditioning and scenic setting, the 18-hole, 6,191-metre course provides a challenging test for members and guests alike, while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental care.
Georg Rauber, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Breitenloo Land AG, said: “Partnering with The R&A through its Sustainable Agronomy Service is a significant step forward for our club. This collaboration underlines our ambition to combine environmental responsibility with outstanding playing standards.”
Edgar Haenseler, Member of the Board of Directors at Breitenloo Land AG, added: “We’re proud to be part of this initiative, ensuring our course continues to thrive for members and visitors well into the future while setting a benchmark for sustainable course management in Central Europe.”
