The R&A, golf’s global governing body, has signed the Respect in Golf pledge, underlining its commitment to ensuring the sport is open, welcoming, and inclusive for all.
The Respect in Golf pledge is a central part of England Golf’s movement to embed equality, diversity, and inclusion across every level of the game.
By joining the initiative, The R&A strengthens a collective movement that already includes all affiliated England Golf counties, clubs, and leading brands, all working together to eliminate discrimination and foster environments where everyone feels respected and valued.
Jeremy Tomlinson, Chief Executive of England Golf, said: “We are delighted that The R&A has added its voice to the Respect in Golf pledge. As one of the most influential organisations in world golf, their support sends a powerful signal that respect and inclusivity are fundamental to the future of the game.
“Together, we can ensure golf is recognised not only for its traditions and excellence, but also for its values of fairness and belonging.”
Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, said: “Our purpose is to open golf to the world and encourage more people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and backgrounds to play and engage with the sport more frequently.
“We therefore need to break down barriers and ensure that golf is accessible and inclusive for everyone so that they can enjoy its many social and health benefits. We can only achieve this by collectively working together to achieve this aim, and so we are delighted to support England Golf’s commitment to championing respect at every level of golf.”
The pledge builds on The R&A’s strategy to develop and strengthen the sport globally, ensuring golf is enjoyed by people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
England Golf’s movement is already supported by all 60 counties and more than 1,700 affiliated clubs.
