Inrange tees up SportTech50 award

Golf ball tracking and driving range experience company Inrange Golf has once again been recognised as one of the companies transforming sport through technology in BusinessCloud's latest SportTech50 ranking.

Golf ball tracking and driving range experience company Inrange Golf has once again been recognised as one of the companies transforming sport through technology in BusinessCloud’s latest SportTech50 ranking.

The SportsTech50 celebrates those businesses making a difference through technology applications in the sport and leisure sectors. Following the creation of a 72-strong shortlist, the final top-50 ranking was decided by a combination of selections from an independent judging panel and a public vote among readers of BusinessCloud.

Inrange Golf, which placed 4th in the 2022 SportsTech50 list – up from last year’s fifth – has enjoyed rapid growth in the last 12 months, launching sites in two new continents – Asia and Australasia – as well as continuing to expand in its core markets in the UK and the USA. The company has positioned itself as the market leader in the ‘Experience Range’ concept, where the idea of ‘just a bucket of balls’ is no longer good enough for visitors to one of their partner sites.

Will Kerr, Head of Products at Inrange Golf, said: “We’ve worked hard to create a worthwhile and memorable experience for anyone who visits an Inrange range. The practicing golfer will get stats, shot data, progression information and more every session. While the social player, who cares less about the quality of their shots and more about whether or not they can beat their friends in one of our Inrange+ games – can enjoy a night on the range too.”

BusinessCloud editor Jonathan Symcox, who compiled the SportsTech50 ranking, said: “Our world is rapidly changing and tech is becoming a part of almost everything we do. Businesses whose sole offering revolves around technology, need to enhance the user experience in an ethical way, while also creating a new way of operating in their sector. Within the sports industry, Inrange is doing a fantastic job of re-creating the way people experience the driving range, and are deserving winners on our list.”

The Inrange system is ideal for new golfers and experienced players alike

The Inrange system consists of radar sensors placed in and around a driving range to create a series of interlocking radar fields. Once calibrated, they can determine the origin of each ball (which bay it was hit from), and track its entire flight, no matter how long or short, in real time. The resulting data is relayed either to an in-bay touchscreen or via the cloud to the Inrange app on the player’s mobile device. Able to cover a range of 100 bays or more, these sensors can track dozens of balls hit simultaneously, each from a different origin, and provide detailed data on speed, trajectory, path, landing point and more, to within a yard.
