Golf clubs in Wales looking for extra funding to carry out sustainability projects can now apply for an accelerator grant through Wales Golf.

Up to £5,000 is available to clubs to support projects which positively contribute towards fostering nature, community engagement, taking climate action and reducing emissions.

The funding, made available by the Welsh Government, is the second wave of sustainability funding distributed by Wales Golf following the Kickstarter Fund which was launched in April.
That saw 18 clubs from across Wales benefit from the fund and either begin or strengthen their sustainability journey.

In addition to the £5,000 being made available to apply for, clubs which are successful in obtaining funding will also have access to the OnCourse Sustainability Self-Assessment, a sustainability report which includes a carbon footprint report. These additional elements are provided free of charge by Wales Golf’s sustainability project partners The GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf.

Hannah Mcallister, Chief Executive Officer at Wales Golf, said: “The high number of applications we received for the Kickstarter Fund demonstrates a clear need and appetite from Welsh golf clubs to start embedding sustainable golf projects within the strategies adopted by clubs.

“We are extremely thankful to the Welsh Government for providing us with funding to highlight how we can advance sustainability and climate action, in and through the sport of golf in Wales. We look forward to seeing the innovative ways our clubs interpret the topic areas for the Accelerator Grant and highlight the positive impacts the project will have for their club.”

Applications for the Accelerator Grant can now be submitted online and additional information obtained by visiting www.walesgolf.org/sustainability-grant-funding-support/
