North Foreland appoints new general manager

Experienced club manager John Maguire has joins historic Kent club.

North Foreland Golf Club has appointed John Maguire as its new General Manager following a comprehensive national recruitment process led by specialist golf recruitment company Promote People.

The appointment marks an important step in the 123-year-old Kent club’s continued development as it seeks to strengthen its leadership, enhance member experience and position itself for the future.

The club’s board had been seeking a commercially astute and highly visible leader capable of balancing operational excellence with strong member engagement. With increasing expectations around governance, financial management and long-term strategic planning, the role was viewed as critical to the club’s next phase of development.

Promote People worked closely with the club’s leadership to define the ideal candidate profile, focusing on leadership style, cultural fit, golf industry knowledge and strategic capability. A targeted search campaign was then launched across the golf and hospitality sectors, combining direct outreach with discreet advertising and engagement across industry networks.

The response attracted strong interest from across the UK. Following a rigorous process of screening and interviews, a shortlist of six high-calibre candidates was presented to the club’s board for final consideration. After a detailed interview process, North Foreland Golf Club selected John Maguire as its preferred candidate.

Maguire, brings extensive experience in golf club operations, strategic leadership and team development, having spent the last 20 years as general manager at The Richmond Golf Club in south west London, and will now lead North Foreland as it continues to evolve and enhance its offering for members.

Richard Keel, Chairman of North Foreland Golf Club, praised the recruitment process, saying: “A thorough and professional process from start to finish. The quality of candidates presented exceeded expectations. I was particularly impressed with the detailed information supplied with each CV, demonstrating that they had conducted a prior interview with each candidate in line with our initial brief. Their structured approach gave us complete confidence in our final decision.”
