Seve Comeback Boosted by New Equipment Deal

Severiano Ballesteros’s quest to return to the summit of European Golf has been backed by Mizuno, the Japanese equipment giant.

Mizuno has committed its vast technical resources to supporting one of Europe’s favourite players. Severiano Ballesteros will play with Mizuno Pro II irons and new Forged driver, carry the Mizuno staff bag and wear a Mizuno Tec Flex glove. The deal cements a relationship that has run for the last two years with Mizuno servicing Seve’s equipment through its European Tour Workshop. It harks back to the period in the ‘70s and ‘80s when Seve had an agreement with Mizuno although that only covered Japan.

Mizuno believe that Ballesteros is ideally suited to represent its brand. With his game very much based on “feel” Mizuno thinks that he has the perfect game to promote its forged equipment. Marketing Manager David Matthews commented, “Seve is the perfect figurehead for Mizuno. He is the rare sportsman whose appeal crosses boundaries of age ability and nationality. He rarely has a dull round and that’s why the public relate to him.”

“Mizuno make good simple equipment that lets me play to my strengths, “says Seve. “The irons have more feel and consistency than others I’ve tried and allow me to be more creative.”
